ShafqatWasi, son of Sardar and ZahidaWasi, was born on April 14, 1978 in Karachi, Pakistan. Shafqat has two older brothers, two older sisters and one younger sister. Shafqat’s father, who was searching for a better life and future for his kids, immigrated to the United States with his wife and two youngest kids (Shafqat and Aiysha) from Dubai, UAE in May of 1992. Shafqat started his education by enrolling in local Junior High School in Brooklyn, NY and upon graduating from Lafayette High School, he was faced with a decision, go to College like all of his friends or join the Military. It was a difficult decision to sell to his mother but with strong support from his father and the rest of the family, he began his journey with the United States Navy on September 05, 1996.

Wow, what a journey it has been since, Shafqat chose to be an Aviation Machinist Mate and attended Boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL; “A” School in Pensacola, FL; His first duty Station was with VP-10 (P-3 Squadron) in NAS Brunswick, ME, with multiple deployments to South America, Puerto Rico and Italy (NATO Kosovo Conflict); His second duty Station was with VX-23 (F/A-18 E&F Squadron) in Patuxent River, MD, with multiple detachments to Lemoore, CA; Ohio and USS Ronald Regan CVN-76 (Operation Enduring Freedom). The journey was a good one where he met some awesome people and made some lifelong friends but Shafqat knew he could contribute more to his country if he went back to school and finished his education. He received an honorable discharge as a Second Class Petty Officer (E-5) Combat Vet after doing 8 years of active duty.

Upon separation from the Navy in October 2004, Shafqat enrolled in Polytechnic University (now known as Polytechnic Institute of NYU), where he finished his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering in June 2007.  After which he joined NYC Department of Transportation in the Movable Bridges Section as a Mechanical Engineer. He learned a lot in DOT but there was something missing… his love for Aviation and Planes!!! He joined the Patent and Trade Mark Office in Alexandria, VA as a Patent Examiner in October 2008. Shafqat performed his duties as a Patent Examiner but when he learned of a position opening with Defense Contract Management Agency, where he would be working with Northrop Grumman and Boeing on the EA-18G Program, he could not resist the opportunity and joined DCMA Bethpage as an Aerospace Engineer in January 2010. Here Shafqat works with NAVAIR and other Government Agencies to resolve technical issues and ensures that the contractors are performing satisfactorily.

Shafqat got married in October 2010 to his loving wife AmbreenWasi and they now have an adorable twenty six months old daughter Alina Wasi. They are extremely honored and humbled to be given this opportunity from Homes for Homecoming Heroes and Larry Sklar to become home owners. They can’t wait to start their new life in their new home. They would like to thank all the volunteers who have helped build this house and want to thank everyone who is here from the bottom of their hearts and asks that they always keep them in their thoughts and prayers. Last but not least, they would also like to give a special thanks to their parents for making the tough decisions when they had to and believing and instilling in them the virtue that “Dreams do come true, if you just go out there and make them happen...”

Thanks again, God bless you all and God bless the United States of America!!!
